When 12-year-old Yoshi Kondo discovered a love for music and DJing while living in a small town near Osaka, Japan, he knew right away that he needed to learn and perfect English in order to pursue his passion. He immediately signed up as an exchange student and found himself near Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he remained through college. After working with some friends on comic books for a few years, perfecting the language, he was eventually hired at a boutique recording studio in New York. He arrived in the city with not a cent in his pocket and no friends. He persisted despite challenges, but with hard work and determination, Yoshi climbed the ranks in the music industry, where he has now spent over 20 years developing artists and creating music.
It was pure destiny that Yoshi Kondo and Michael Blu would meet. Blu was known around the crypto world as the “NFT music guy” for his work on the release of the first full-length music video, My Bitcoin Bull. His fantastic reputation and ability to recognize and bring to life creative ideas from essentially nothing made him the perfect partner for Yoshi. As Blu says, “It all started from magic... I meet Yoshi and he’s got a file full of incredible music that he’s produced over the past years, and he just hands it to me. This is literally his life’s work, and he gives it to me and says that he just wants to see good stuff happen with it. That selfless act was his joy.”
Blu and Yoshi discussed at length what to do with all the music; how to bring it to people in ways they had never seen before, a new take on collecting, sharing, and trading music. They also obsessed with how to bring the artists along for the ride, connecting them to their fans around the world and helping to secure their future as creators.
These magical moments and the passing of the gift of music from Yoshi to Blu was the first spark. YoshiDrops was born shortly thereafter, and now we pass that same flame onto the artists and the fans to create a revolution in music history.
